Many of our members have continued their musical education and are now professional musicians.  During this difficult period, orchestral and recital work has almost disappeared, and they are providing outstanding concerts and recital online.  Upcoming concerts are listed below.

YOUNG PERFORMER OF THE YEAR COMMEMORATIVE RECITAL

Due to Corona Virus restrictions, the usual live concert for the 3MBS FM YOUNG PERFORMER OF THE YEAR will not take place.  Instead, 3MBS has arranged a Commemorative Digital Recital featuring past performers, and a live performance from Hoang Pham, on Sunday 25th October at 5.45 p.m.  In order to access this this, please go to trybooking.com and search the event under 3MBS to gain a ticket.                                                                                                                    We look forward to having as many members supporting this

 

 

Celebrate 32 years of the 3MBS Victorian Young Performer of the Year Award

 

For 32 years, the 3MBS Victorian Young Performer of the Year Award has become a defining opportunity for Melbourne’s young and emerging musicians. The prestigious music competition attracts many of Victoria’s finest young musicians to perform and compete in front of a live audience. However, this year the event will be celebrated a little differently.

Tune in to 103.5FM on Sunday 25 October at 2pm, as presenter Colin Fox delves into our music archives to present highlights of the competition, past musical moments and fond memories. Also, hear interviews from past winners as they describe how the award has influenced their music-making career.

The event is free to listen; however, please consider becoming a Young Performer Angel to support future events like this occurring.

Illuminations: Charles Ives - American Modernist
Throughout his life Ives was better known for his creativity in structuring life insurance packages in his insurance business than for his musical output. Since his death in 1954 his popularity slowly grew and Ives is now lauded for using such innovative musical concepts as polytonality, aleatory and quarter tones. Callum Moncrieff discovers the life and music of this highly original composer.

Reflections: James Ehnes CM OM FRSC 
Canadian violinist James Ehnes CM OM FRSC is renowned for his stunning virtuosity, serene lyricism and an unfaltering musicality. He made his debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra at 13 and has since performed in the world’s greatest concert and recital halls. This program was recorded in his dressing room at Hamer Hall where he was preparing for concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
